So most of you who follow the farm know me because of the farm. But for those of you who didn’t know me prior to Parkside Farm… I have lived several career lives.

For several years I worked in advertising and digital media, publishing and design for various corporate entities before launching my own coaching and branding business in 2014.

As my business evolved so did I and I did a lot of motivational speaking, coaching and even hosted a radio show for two years. During those years, I also self published two self help books, one being an Amazon best seller.

Those years seem so far away and long gone. In 2019, I made some monumental changes and completely shut down my former business and stopped promoting and selling my books.

I was headed in a different direction, the Lord was calling me elsewhere. The farm was birthed out of many years of isolation and prayer as to what to do next with my life.

I have not thought much about that former life or those books I published. I picked up this one today and it was as if I wrote this book for myself now way back in 2017 as I read part of chapter 4.

One day, I’d like to write a new book about the farm and incorporate pieces of my former two books. There is still so much goodness in both that I believe still can apply and be helpful to myself and others.

While I don’t know when that will be, I thought I’d share that piece of my life with you all and some page excerpts from the chapter, specifically talking about the leaky bucket analogy. 📚

So most of you who follow the farm know me because of the farm. But for those of you who didn’t know me prior to Parkside Farm… I have lived several career lives.

Thank you everyone for your kind words and prayers at the unexpected news of losing our sweet kitty boy Spot. His momma Brita took up residence in the Farm Market today on his behalf.

I was able to bring Spot home and let all his friends say goodbye before his burial. The other kitties have been hanging around and loving on me which I needed. I’ve been needing to slow down and this loss has forced me to.

Something happened to you and you crawled all the way home with just the use of your front legs to find me so I could hold you, tell you I loved you and let me know what happened to you.

You fell asleep forever in my arms, purring as you always did, making biscuits and giving me those aggressive love bites. I’ve never had such a little weirdo and annoying little cat like you. I will miss you forever.

Run free, chase all the birds and bunnies and climb the tallest trees. Give a kiss and a kitty hug like you’d give me to your brother, uncle, grandma and dad. Until we meet in Heaven someday, I love you Spot. You were the best 🐾🌈

I have been absolutely blown away by the incredible families who have booked animal classes at to visit the farm in the last week! In the last month we’ve had all ages and people come who were visiting from Seattle, Chicago, New York and Las Vegas! I’m so thankful all my work to get the website search optimized has paid off and so many people are finding Parkside Farm to visit while on vacation 😍

I had a little chuckle today. This morning we had some friends come and visit for a Cuddle JOY Session class with the Pygmy goats. It was a drippy, rainy morning and we pushed the class back a half hour to avoid getting wet. The goats were not too eager to venture out in the soggy day. During our class, Samuel observed our visitors from the comfort of his little house. Shortly after they left, I came out to give him water only to find he had shut the door. I went back out a little bit later and he decided he wanted to be social again and had opened the door and was standing in it. I hope you get a little laugh, too 🏠 🐐🚪

Hello everyone! I’m back! 🇵🇷👏
I took a much needed vacation to Puerto Rico and it was amazing. I got home at midnight last night and went straight to see what flowers bloomed while I was gone in the dark. It was nice and cool for cutting. These are gorgeous featuring sunflowers, statice, many fillers, dahlias, zinnias and snapdragons. Just in time for the 4th of July weekend they are now available in the Farm Market 😍

Looking at these photos you wouldn’t know what a crazy of a day it was! Everything seemed to go wrong yet somehow surviving on prayers and everything worked out in the end. If you want to read the saga, continue below…

We had guests check out late this morning which put me and the cleaner behind getting ready for a wedding party coming in this afternoon.

Then the washing machine went haywire spilling water and soap suds all over the laundry room. I proceeded to truck loads of laundry over to our house. We got the house turned over just as the guests pulled in.

I was thrilled to sell out of the flower bouquets I cut and arranged and put in the stand this morning and also coordinated pickup of a large floral order. Things were improving or so I thought.

Then the mower battery died after being used all morning. One of the baby goats got his head caught in a fence and hay rack. That was scary, moved hay rack out of reach. Then Maverick needed a bath after rolling in deer poop 💩

Oh I failed to mention, got the goat garage deep cleaned and goats put away just in time to get ready and leave to have a photography session at @lavenderlifeco with @jennarosephotographygr can’t wait to see the real pictures 🤩

Thank you Bob, Trish, Joy and Ken for cleaning, mowing, weed whacking, fixing the mower, scooping poop and fixing the washer.

It takes a village and adrenaline. There’s no pressure like hard and fast deadlines. Thankful for a minute to smell the lavender and now sit down for my first meal of the day, TGIF. 🤣

Joy and I used to show goats together in 4H back in the day and it was fun to do a Jump for JOY Program visit together with the goats. The twins even tried to help Joy clean up after their mess 😂 Thank you so much @peckham.inc for having us out today! We got to take the goats in an elevator and have a great rooftop view. It was truly a delight to connect with so many of your amazing team members 🐐

What a busy Friday! Started off the morning with a school farm tour with lots of kiddos for two @thelearningexperience locations. This afternoon we headed to @grandbrookmc in Grandville for. Jump for JOY Program visit with the residents and staff. Special thanks to Natalia for booking us to come out. Senior center and memory care visits are always so special for us to meet and engage with the older generations in our community.

Not going to lie, I’ve been exhausted this week and going to bed early and not been able to keep my eyes open once my head hits the pillow. It’s hard, hard work working in agriculture. It’s been a lot of making sure everything is watered in these warm temps, including myself! Hydrate!!!! Here’s some pics of what’s growing. Macintosh apples, lots and lots of pumpkin plants, mini sunflowers for jewelry making, snapdragons are blooming, corn is coming in nicely and my first dahlia is starting to bloom! So much going on this time of year. Excited to have a school field trip coming tomorrow morning. Lots of education to share with the kiddos and teachers 👩‍🌾🍎🌽

Bouquets will be limited at the Farm Market through the weekend because I’m taking most of my flowers to @everettsgardens Spring Market Friday and Saturday. I made a couple special rose bouquets grown here at the farm 🌹 Most of my peonies are spoken for as well other than what I have with me at the Spring Market. Our snapdragons will be coming soon and I’ll be updating on other flower stock soon 😍

All set up and super excited to be a part of @everettsgardens Spring Market!! Come see me Friday from 10am-4pm and Saturday from 9am-2pm. I will have peony and some special rose bouquets for sale along with all of our other wonderful Farm Market products including some walnut syrup! Not an ideal day to do a hive inspection but @d.vander.b and I made it work with a tent for the rain! Hives are overall doing well, but are a bit behind in building out the honey boxes. Our theory is the recent cold temps have kept the bees from foraging, they should catch up quick. We found evidence of new comb being built, eggs and capped brood (including drone and worker and bee queen cups - no queen larva thank goodness), honey and bee bread (food for baby bees). I’m very encouraged to see these hives thriving as we had issues last year with our queens and the hives. We got a visual of queen Vashti and saw plenty of evidence of queen Esther. We got the hives reassembled as quickly as possible and which made everyone happy and we only suffered a few unexpected bee stings 🐝

Had such an incredible evening tonight at Storytime in Garfield Park! It was the perfect weather to meet so many families. The goats were so happy to see hundreds of smiling faces and I was able to hand out and autograph 80 of Stella Bella’s Pygmy Goat Miracles storybooks to local families! Special thanks to Miss Nicci for the helping hands :)
