It’s Friday and I made myself a big beautiful bouquet of flowers just because! I foraged some pretty purple clover and fern and added a few things from my cut gardens. 😍💐🌸

What a busy Friday! Started off the morning with a school farm tour with lots of kiddos for two @thelearningexperience locations. This afternoon we headed to @grandbrookmc in Grandville for. Jump for JOY Program visit with the residents and staff. Special thanks to Natalia for booking us to come out. Senior center and memory care visits are always so special for us to meet and engage with the older generations in our community.

Not going to lie, I’ve been exhausted this week and going to bed early and not been able to keep my eyes open once my head hits the pillow. It’s hard, hard work working in agriculture. It’s been a lot of making sure everything is watered in these warm temps, including myself! Hydrate!!!! Here’s some pics of what’s growing. Macintosh apples, lots and lots of pumpkin plants, mini sunflowers for jewelry making, snapdragons are blooming, corn is coming in nicely and my first dahlia is starting to bloom! So much going on this time of year. Excited to have a school field trip coming tomorrow morning. Lots of education to share with the kiddos and teachers 👩‍🌾🍎🌽

Would like to formally introduce my new co-captain on the farm, Maverick. Mav joined us recently very unexpectedly but has already made such a positive impact on the farm! He is a McNab shepherd and will be used for protection from predators and to keep all of us safe and herding the pygmy goats. He is a sweet and loving boy, eager to please and to listen. The most obedient and smartest dog I’ve ever met. Please give him a warm welcome to the Parkside Farm family 🐾🐶

Bouquets will be limited at the Farm Market through the weekend because I’m taking most of my flowers to @everettsgardens Spring Market Friday and Saturday. I made a couple special rose bouquets grown here at the farm 🌹 Most of my peonies are spoken for as well other than what I have with me at the Spring Market. Our snapdragons will be coming soon and I’ll be updating on other flower stock soon 😍

All set up and super excited to be a part of @everettsgardens Spring Market!! Come see me Friday from 10am-4pm and Saturday from 9am-2pm. Not an ideal day to do a hive inspection but @d.vander.b and I made it work with a tent for the rain! Hives are overall doing well, but are a bit behind in building out the honey boxes. Our theory is the recent cold temps have kept the bees from foraging, they should catch up quick. We found evidence of new comb being built, eggs and capped brood (including drone and worker and bee queen cups - no queen larva thank goodness), honey and bee bread (food for baby bees). I’m very encouraged to see these hives thriving as we had issues last year with our queens and the hives. We got a visual of queen Vashti and saw plenty of evidence of queen Esther. We got the hives reassembled as quickly as possible and which made everyone happy and we only suffered a few unexpected bee stings 🐝

If you know me, you know I love our kitties and have been able to help socialize and place many feral kittens found at the farm and we have tamed our very own feral Mr. Boots who now calls Parkside Farm his home. 🐾🐈‍⬛🐈

Thank you Joy, Amy and Autumn for helping get all the pumpkins planted, 12+ varieties this year and more flowers planted. We also got a good start on our corn planting. This year we will have two different kinds of sweet corn available along with decorative glass corn. A couple of progress photos of all the flower plants out front! On this beautiful Memorial Day, I’m so encouraged checking on all of the growth around the farm. We have potatoes and tomatoes growing well already! The honeybee hives appear to be doing very well and thriving. Will do a more in depth hive inspection soon. So many flowers coming in already, zinnias, snapdragons, cosmos, ranunculus, dahlias and so much more. This week I plan to get the rest of the crops in which will include more vegetables, many different pumpkin and squash varieties, decorative and sweet corn. May I ever be reminded it is only the Lord who causes all things to grow and to flourish in His time. Though I plant, nurture and feed the seed, without Him nothing would bear fruit.

Two years ago on Memorial Day weekend, my life and the farm were changed forever. There are always firsts on every farm and we experienced our first sudden, unexpected loss. Our sweet Pina Colada passed away tragically and it gutted me, it still does to this day. I keep myself from thinking back too much because her loss still brings me to tears and so much grief. There was nothing I could do to prevent it or save her. Unfortunately it was her time to go on to Heaven to Jesus’ arms. As I wait for the weather to cooperate and the peonies to bloom, I made some beautiful bouquets featuring bold and beautiful pink rhododendron and delicate lilac blossoms. These flowers represent Pina Colada’s memory so well. Her sweet and friendly personality, yet small and gentle build. If you’re remembering someone special this Memorial Day weekend, I invite you to stop by the Farm Market to select a Pina Colada bouquet in their honor and memory ❤️

I continue to be blown away how the Lord has spread news of the farm literally far and wide. Yesterday, to my surprise @fox17online and @wcsgradio shared details of the Spring Open House! Many thanks! Since the news interview with @wzzm13 last week I’ve heard from multiple people out of state who saw the story and reached out for more information and to visit the farm. Truly amazing.

I continue to be blown away how the Lord has spread news of the farm literally far and wide. Yesterday, to my surprise @fox17online and @wcsgradio shared details of the Spring Open House! Many thanks! Since the news interview with @wzzm13 last week I’ve heard from multiple people out of state who saw the story and reached out for more information and to visit the farm. Truly amazing.

Wowee! Thank you everyone for coming out today! The afternoon was buzzing with activity and full with lots of families. We enjoyed interacting with so many of you and loved answering so many questions about the farm and agriculture this morning and afternoon. The goats were a big hit and especially the baby goats! Words cannot express how thankful I am to the Lord from sparing us, the animals and the farm from the crazy storm last night. We have no damage, just a little cleanup to do! I prayed so hard last night with the tornadoes so close to us. We are continuing to pray for improved weather tomorrow. We have so many of you registered for the Spring Open House! Please come with appropriate clothing in mind. It’s supposed to be cooler with wind gusts. Recommend long pants, closed toed shoes or boots and layers. Put an umbrella in the car just in case. We look forward to seeing you all tomorrow!

Words cannot express how thankful I am to the Lord from sparing us, the animals and the farm from the crazy storm last night. We have no damage, just a little cleanup to do! I prayed so hard last night with the tornadoes so close to us. We are continuing to pray for improved weather tomorrow. We have so many of you registered for the Spring Open House! Please come with appropriate clothing in mind. It’s supposed to be cooler with wind gusts. Recommend long pants, closed toed shoes or boots and layers. Put an umbrella in the car just in case. We look forward to seeing you all tomorrow!

I am very proud of this being our 4th FREE, open to the public event. It’s very important to me to provide something accessible for the local communities. We’ve been working hard getting ready for Saturday. We are praying for good weather (no rain), safety and for every family who attends to have a wonderful time.
